Just Like Christmas!

I've been saying it's going to feel "just like Christmas" when our bathroom is finally finished and the living room furniture finally makes it in. But I didn't know it would look like it too! Terry is finishing the bathroom today, we got to take our first shower in it on Tuesday night. Yesterday, he got the toilet hooked up and the door trim up among other things. It looks really nice. We still need to do something about the window, we are torn as to having Terry rebuild it, or just replace it with a new wood/metal clad window and removing the storm window. So we will wait on that one.

The furniture was delivered yesterday, and it's unbelievable what a difference it made. Just feels more like home.

Ahead of Ourselves

Ok well, guess I got a little over excited and ahead of myself. No hot bath last night, but it's close - probably tonight. Turns out the plumbers bumbled things up on the toilet plumbing, the toilet drain tube was 3-4inches taller than it was supposed to be thus causing an extra fitting to be necessary, etc. And a lot more work. Terry worked all day yesterday up until 8pm last night, and I have to say he's done a wonderful job. If you ever need the name of a good construction guy, let me know. I'll be glad to pass his name on.

Hot Bath Tonight!

We have finally come to the realization that some things are better left to the professionals. While Chris is a very capable computer guy, he may not be cut out to do plumbing. So, we called a guy that a friend uses, he does it all - if it involves construction or old houses, he's the man. And a very busy man he is, too. Lucky for us, his current projects are those outdoors, and double lucky for us, it's going to be rainy here this week! So, today he started on the tub, toilet and sink installation and we should at least have a working tub and toilet upstairs tonight. Maybe even the sink, but hey, we'll take what we can get! Yesterday, Chris cleaned the construction debris out of the messy room that had the fixtures, while I painted the shelves for the kitchen.

By the end of the week, the bathroom will be done, our living room furniture should be here, and the kitchen will have shelves. Finally, the pieces are all coming together. The end of chaos is near! Happy Spring!

Ix-nay the Ile-tay

Last weekend we went to Home Depot to get our subway wall tile, which we thought would be a quick thing. No, we were so wrong. Not only do we have inside corners in our bathroom, but an outside corner as well which seems like no big deal except for they didn't have the inside corner cove base tiles. Those would be a special order and they couldn't find their order book. So after talking to the tile department guy (who looked at us like we were totally nuts) and going through the in's and out's of tiling (yikes), we decided that maybe we should just paint the walls and put up a nice, tall baseboard. So yes, we chickened out. The good thing is that we got the floor tiles grouted, which was actually kind of fun (but time-consuming) and we got the walls painted. This weekend, we will re-paint the walls (found out there is an anti-mold, etc additive that works wonders) and install the baseboards and hopefully get the fixtures installed. I've decided if we don't get the fixtures in ourselves by the end of the weekend, it's time to give up and call the plumbers. No more of this no bathtub/shower thing!
